I am just a gal in one of the biggest and most expensive cities in the world doing my best to get by…. No, scratch that. Let’s try this again…. I am a gal in one of the biggest and most expensive cities in the world trying my best to improve my quality of life and enjoy all the opportunities that this nutty place has to offer—without becoming bogged down by its less attractive qualities.
With that in mind, I started this blog for both selfish and altruistic reasons. As a New Yorker for more than a decade, I’ve found that the challenges of city living change along with my phase of life. It has occurred to me that the younger version of myself could have greatly benefitted from advice from the older version of myself, and I know that there has to be quite a bit of knowledge out there in this city (and perhaps other places) that I might benefit from now and in the future. My hope is that my ideas for improving urban living will benefit plenty of others who sometimes struggle with this fabulous place (or other similar metropolises)…and that along the way people will share ideas that I (and everyone else) can benefit from as well.
Softer City is meant to be a community and forum for urbanites–in addition to a place where I can share what I’ve learned in my years as a city dweller. If there is a specific city-related subject or challenge that you would like me to offer thoughts on or investigate on your behalf , you can send me a request at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would love to hear from you!
In any case, I hope you’ll join me in my quest to make city life less harsh (on both the pocket book and the soul) or, at minimum, find a place to commiserate and know you’re not alone!
